Orca calf trapped in low-salinity Vancouver Island lagoon, awaiting rescue after mother's death.

A young orca calf trapped in a Vancouver Island lagoon has whitened skin due to low salinity water, but the Fisheries Department says the calf is active and not showing signs of emaciation. Planning for a rescue operation continues with the Ehattesaht First Nation, and the calf's behavior and activity have remained constant. The calf has been trapped alone since its pregnant mother died on March 23.
