2-year-old orca calf stranded in lagoon since mother's death, efforts underway to reconnect with pod.
A two-year-old orca calf has been stranded in a lagoon near Zeballos, British Columbia since March 23, after its pregnant mother died when caught by the low tide. Efforts to get the calf to open water and reconnect with its pod members have involved using boats, directional lines, and recorded whale calls from its family. Despite these efforts, the calf remains stranded and is regularly breaching in the lagoon.
