Asahi Shuzo plans to brew sake on the ISS in 2025, aiming to sell a single bottle for $653,000.

Asahi Shuzo, known for its Dassai sake, plans to brew sake on the International Space Station (ISS) in late 2025, aiming to produce a single 100ml bottle of "space-brewed" sake to be sold for $653,000. The project involves sending rice, koji mold, and yeast to the ISS for fermentation, with the goal of understanding how microgravity affects the brewing process and potentially leading to future space tourism initiatives. Proceeds from the sale will go to domestic space development projects.
