Study finds lower-income neighborhoods with fewer food stores consume more snacks and sweets.

A new study by the University of Michigan & University of Alabama-Birmingham reveals that people in lower-income neighborhoods and areas without local food stores consume more snacks and sweets compared to those in higher-income areas and neighborhoods with many food stores. Residents in areas with numerous food stores ate 9% fewer snacks and sweets overall, while higher-income households consumed more nutrition bars and low-fat snacks and sweets than lower-income households.
