Portugal's data regulator CNPD has ordered Sam Altman's iris-scanning project Worldcoin to stop collecting biometric data for 90 days, due to privacy concerns and legal developments. The regulator has received numerous complaints in the last month about unauthorized data collection from minors, inadequate information provided to data subjects, and the inability to erase the data or revoke consent. Worldcoin operates through scanning individual's irises via its Orb devices, exchanging the data for a digital ID and cryptocurrency.
