Hong Kong's privacy regulator has ordered the Worldcoin cryptocurrency project to cease operations in the city. Worldcoin, founded by OpenAI chief Sam Altman, was found to have collected and scanned participants' face and iris images in violation of the territory's Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. The Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) declared that the face and iris images collected were unnecessary and excessive, and the project collected personal data unfairly.
