UK's Environmental Audit Committee highlights inadequate progress in tackling e-waste, with no long-term delivery plan or implemented recommendations.
The UK's Environmental Audit Committee warns that the government has made little progress on tackling the issue of e-waste. A 2020 report highlighted the significant human and environmental impact of manufacturing electronic items, and the potential for toxic chemicals to contaminate the environment if not properly treated. Since then, little progress has been made, with no long-term delivery plan to reduce e-waste, and few of the government's accepted recommendations implemented. The committee's 27 proposals for reducing e-waste include setting long-term targets, implementing producer responsibility requirements, and mandating the collection of e-waste.
