Malaysia reviews e-waste disposal regulations with emphasis on 'extended producer responsibility' for 2023 enforcement.
Malaysia's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability is reviewing final e-waste disposal regulations for enforcement in 2023. The draft regulations emphasize 'extended producer responsibility and shared responsibility' for refineries, importers, users, and recycling centers. The goal is to manage e-waste from households and non-industrial sectors, avoiding hazardous material contamination and promoting urban mining for recycling materials. Currently, e-waste disposal at the household level is informal or illegal.
