UK proposes expanding Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) to waste incineration and energy sectors.
The UK government has proposed expanding its Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) to include waste incineration and energy from waste sectors. The plans aim to cap a greater proportion of emissions and seek stakeholder input on integrating engineered greenhouse gas removals such as Direct Air Carbon Capture and considering high-quality nature-based removals. The ETS, launched in 2021, currently covers aviation, power, and heavy industrial sectors.
