ECOWAS court orders Togo to pay damages for failing to provide a timely appeal to citizen.

The ECOWAS Court of Justice ordered the Togolese government to pay 5 million CFA Francs in damages to citizen Kessei Menveinoyou for violating his right to a fair and timely appeal. The court found Togo violated Article 7(1) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights. Menveinoyou filed an employment suit against the Ministry of Health in 2015, and after an unfavorable ruling, his 2016 appeal faced an eight-year delay due to the Labour Court Registrar's failure to process it.
