Zimbabwe High Court dismisses lawyer Petina Gappah's application for Judge Jacob Mafusire's recusal in her defamation case against Fadzayi Mahere.
Zimbabwe High Court Judge Justice Jacob Mafusire dismissed an application by lawyer Petina Gappah seeking his recusal in a US$1m defamation case brought against her by fellow lawyer Fadzayi Mahere. Gappah had claimed Mafusire was biased and had a personal relationship with Mahere. Mafusire ordered Gappah to pay the highest scale of costs and directed her lawyers to explain why they should not bear the fees. He criticised Gappah and her lawyers for "demonising the judiciary."
