CHP launches statewide Maximum Enforcement Period over Labor Day weekend to promote safe driving and reduce fatalities.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will implement a statewide "Maximum Enforcement Period" (MEP) during the upcoming Labor Day weekend from August 30 at 6:01 p.m. to September 2 at 11:59 p.m. All available CHP officers will be on patrol to encourage safe driving and assist motorists. Last year, during Labor Day MEP, 38 fatalities were reported and nearly half of those not wearing seatbelts. Additionally, 1,064 arrests were made for driving under the influence. The CHP encourages the public to designate a sober driver or use public transit for a safe holiday weekend.
