California Highway Patrol to enforce traffic laws rigorously during Thanksgiving to ensure road safety.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will conduct a "maximum enforcement period" from November 27 at 6:01 p.m. to December 1 at 11:59 p.m. to promote safe driving during Thanksgiving. Officers will focus on seat belt usage, sobriety, and speed limits. Last year, this period led to 1,047 DUI arrests and 27 fatal crashes. CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee advises travelers to prepare vehicles, leave early, wear seat belts, and avoid impaired driving.
