90-year-old Naizghi Gebremedhin, an Eritrean-American, marked his birthday by scaling Mount Kenya, Africa's second-highest peak, for the 14th time. A staunch advocate of physical exercise, Gebremedhin attributes his ability to climb at his age to daily walks of at least 10,000 steps and various stretches. While uncertain about future climbs, he plans to remain active as long as possible.
