Malaysian carmaker Proton, owned by Geely, plans to return to Australia and expand operations in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK by 2027.

Malaysian carmaker Proton, owned by Chinese parent company Geely, is planning a return to Australia and other major markets after its 22-year stint ended in 2017. Proton aims to expand its operations outside Malaysia to Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, with the construction of a new corporate and manufacturing facility, the Automotive Hi-Tech Valley (AHTV), set to be the basis of its entire operations by 2027. The company currently sells four models in Malaysia based on Geely vehicles and is set to launch its first electric vehicle under the sub-brand e:MAS.
