Irish Cabinet approves legislation allowing women with serious illnesses to defer maternity leave by up to a year. This new legislation also provides legal entitlement to maternity leave for TDs and Senators. The proposed bill amends the Maternity Protection Act 1994, enabling women to postpone their maternity leave for up to 52 weeks in case of serious illnesses, such as cancer. The Irish Cancer Society, which led the 'Leave Our Leave' campaign, has welcomed the news.
