Workplace Relations and Safety Minister, Brooke van Velden, introduces the Regulatory Systems Amendment Bill (No3) to improve parental leave flexibility for non-biological parents.

Workplace Relations and Safety Minister, Brooke van Velden, announces the first reading of the Regulatory Systems Amendment Bill (No3) that aims to improve parental leave settings, providing more flexibility for non-biological parents to be primary carers for their child. The bill includes a change that will help people who take on the care of a child unexpectedly, allowing them to stop work within a reasonable period of becoming the primary carer of a child under six. Currently, individuals are required to stop working to access paid parental leave.
