Ireland's ruling party scraps plan to double paid sick leave, citing cost concerns for businesses.

Fine Gael, Ireland's ruling party, has reversed plans to increase annual paid sick leave from five to ten days by 2026, citing affordability for businesses. The Sick Leave Act 2022 introduced statutory paid sick leave phased in from 2023 to 2026. The party's manifesto, "Securing Your Future," also includes a proposal to give €1,000 to every newborn into a savings account, with potential yearly top-ups up to €2,000 until age 18.
