Oklahoma City Zoo breeds rare Volcán Alcedo giant tortoises, endangered species from Galápagos Islands.

The Oklahoma City Zoo, accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), has announced the birth of five rare Volcán Alcedo giant tortoises, endemic to the Galápagos Islands. This makes the zoo one of the few in the US to breed this endangered species. The tortoises, born to parents aged 80-120 years, are currently palm-sized and will take 10-15 years to grow to the size of footballs.
