Oklahoma City Zoo announces the successful breeding of 5 rare Volcán Alcedo giant tortoises, a first in the US. The zoo is the sole accredited AZA institution with a breeding group of these critically endangered Galápagos tortoises. The hatchlings, currently the size of palms, will take 10-15 years to reach football size and will remain separated from adults for development.
