PTSD patients have twice the risk of dementia, challenging the direct link between chronic stress and dementia.

A recent study by the Alzheimer's Society challenges the direct link between chronic stress and dementia, finding that PTSD patients have up to twice the risk of developing dementia. While stress and cortisol have been linked to memory problems, the study found that stress levels alone didn't correlate with the decline in thinking abilities or the development of dementia. The study suggests that while chronic stress may contribute to dementia, it doesn't necessarily cause it.
