NIH-supported study finds daily reminders and incentives boost long-term physical activity in adults at risk of cardiovascular disease, reducing premature death risk by 6%.
A NIH-supported study shows that daily reminders and incentives can boost long-term physical activity in adults at risk of cardiovascular disease. After a year, participants increased their daily steps by over 1,500 and maintained the habit six months later. The improvements led to a 6% reduced risk of premature death and a 10% reduced risk of cardiovascular-related deaths, compared to prior studies.
