4th-year IIT Guwahati student, Touseef Ali Farooqui, was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) after allegedly pledging allegiance to ISIS and attempting to join the terrorist group. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that two IIT Guwahati students have been identified as having links with ISIS. Farooqui, a Bioscience department student, was apprehended after evidence of his ISIS links was found, including an email claiming he was on his way to join ISIS and a black ISIS flag in his hostel room.
