The UK government has announced its intention to appeal against a Belfast High Court ruling that deemed a key provision of the Northern Ireland Troubles Legacy Act unlawful. The act, which offers conditional immunity from prosecution for historic sectarian violence, was deemed not to comply with the European Convention on Human Rights. A new body set up to probe Troubles killings was, however, ruled as capable of conducting human rights-compliant investigations.
