The UK government has withdrawn its appeal against elements of a court ruling that found its legacy legislation incompatible with human rights. The Northern Ireland Troubles (Legacy and Reconciliation) Act, introduced by the previous Conservative government, offered conditional immunity to those involved in crimes during the Troubles. The Labour government has pledged to repeal and replace the legislation and is committed to reversing its contentious ban on conflict-related civil cases and inquests.
