A 185g drone examined molten fuel debris in Fukushima Daiichi's damaged reactor, while TEPCO released treated radioactive wastewater into the sea.
A small drone weighing 185 grams has flown into a damaged reactor at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant for the first time, in hopes of examining molten fuel debris in areas where previous robots failed to reach. Operated by Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (TEPCO), the drone flight comes as the operator also began releasing the fourth batch of treated and diluted radioactive wastewater into the sea. The data collected from the drone mission will be used to develop future probe technology and a process to remove the melted fuel from the reactor in the coming years.
