China's thermal coal imports surge to a record high due to increased electricity demand.

China's thermal coal imports are expected to hit a record high of 37.5 million metric tons in November, up from 32.12 million in October, due to increased electricity demand and lower hydropower output. Despite strong import demand, thermal coal prices have not risen, as domestic coal production has increased and capped seaborne coal prices. Coal still accounts for about 60% of China's power generation.
