China's thermal coal output has dropped by 4.2% for January and February, marking the first decline since September 2021. The drop adds to indications Beijing's push to strengthen energy security by increasing coal production may have reached its peak. Coal production amounted to 705 million tons during the period, while coal-fired power expanded by 9.7% in the first two months, relying on imports to offset declining domestic coal supplies.
