India's coal imports rose 13.2% to 26.10 million tonnes (MT) in April 2024, driven by early onset of summer and buyers prepping for increased power demand. Non-coking coal imports reached 17.40 MT, up from 15.15 MT in the previous year, while coking coal imports increased from 4.77 MT to 4.97 MT. Coal imports in April were up 8.93% from March, with FY24 totaling 268.24 MT, a 7.7% increase from FY23's 249.06 MT.
