2050 Ontario electricity demand projected to rise 75% due to EV manufacturing and AI data center growth.

Ontario's electricity system operator projects a 75% rise in electricity demand by 2050, up from a previous estimate of 60%. This surge is mainly attributed to electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing and the growth of data centers for artificial intelligence (AI). Industrial demand could increase by 58% by 2035, with at least 16 new data centers expected to contribute to a 13% rise in energy needs. The IESO assures adequate power supply for the current decade and will reveal future plans soon.
