2025 Ontario may import up to 2,000MW of power during extreme heat events, due to nuclear power supply refurbishments and a projected 3% electricity demand increase.

Ontario's electricity system operator expects sufficient electricity supply for demand this year and next, but may need to import up to 2,000MW of power from other jurisdictions during extreme heat events, particularly in summer 2025. The province's nuclear power supply provides over half of its electricity, with some units currently undergoing refurbishment and others planned for retirement. Ontario's electricity demand is projected to increase by 1% this year and almost 3% next year.
