The Canadian film "Universal Language," directed by Matthew Rankin, won the $15,000 Summit Award for best Canadian film at the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF). The film, which features an alternate universe where Winnipeg, Quebec, and Tehran merge, is also Canada's official entry for the 97th Academy Awards. Other notable VIFF winners included Kim O'Bomsawin's documentary "Ninan Auassat: We, the Children" and Thea Loo's "Inay (Mama)."
