2022 Newcastle council elections staffed by 378, down from 603 in 2021 for COVID-19 management.
The New South Wales Electoral Commission confirmed all staffing positions were filled for the recent Newcastle council elections, despite some reports of long queues at polling booths. A total of 378 staff were allocated, down from 603 in 2021 when extra workers were hired for COVID-19 management. In 2024, the commission oversaw 125 council elections for over 5.3 million voters, employing more than 20,000 staff statewide.
