27-year-old Aler Gomez-Lucas from Rockville has been sentenced to 3 years, 5 months in prison for causing a fatal crash in August 2021 on Highway 10. Gomez-Lucas pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular homicide after losing control of his vehicle and ejecting his 17-year-old passenger, Nurban Ruvelsi-Perez, who died after being struck by an oncoming pickup. Both passengers had been drinking, and a breathalyzer test showed Gomez-Lucas's blood-alcohol content at 0.178. The pickup driver, who was not drinking, faces no charges.
