33-year-old Paul Barnes, from Yarm, was sentenced to four years in prison and disqualified from driving for 37 months after admitting to burglary, aggravated taking a vehicle without consent, and drug possession. The crimes led to a fatal crash in which a 17-year-old accomplice was killed while attempting to cross the A19 with a stolen Polaris off-road vehicle. Barnes, who suffered minor injuries, was found with class-C opioid drugs.
