2022 South Africa Eastern Cape HIV prevalence declined to 13.7%, with disparities among 25-49 age group persisting due to barriers and treatment gaps.

South Africa's Eastern Cape province has seen a decline in HIV prevalence, down to 13.7% in 2022 from 15.9% in 2017, with 980,000 people currently living with HIV. However, disparities persist, particularly among individuals aged 25 to 49, where prevalence remains high due to barriers such as early sexual debut, multiple partners, and treatment gaps. ART coverage has increased to 83.5%, and Viral Load Suppression rose to 79.3%, but many in this age group remain unaware of their status or not on treatment.
