2024 NZ Consumer Survey shows increased awareness of laws, shift to online reviews, and strong knowledge of key acts.

The New Zealand Consumer Survey for 2024, conducted by MBIE and the Commerce Commission, has shown an increase in consumer awareness of relevant laws and acts. The survey, now fully online, saw a sample size of 3,500 participants and a decrease in direct consumer contact with businesses when issues arise, with more people resorting to online reviews and social media. Awareness of consumer rights and laws remains strong, with 89% of respondents aware of the Consumer Guarantees Act, 90% of the Fair-Trading Act, and 62% of the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act.
