South Australia's ICAC Commissioner Ann Vanstone resigns, citing concerns over 2021 amendments to corruption legislation.
South Australia's Independent Commissioner Against Corruption (ICAC), Ann Vanstone KC, has announced her resignation, citing ongoing concerns over "weaker provisions" implemented in 2021. Vanstone believes that the amendments to the legislation governing public integrity in SA have damaged the scheme under the guise of making it more 'effective and efficient'. She expresses disapproval over the narrowing of the corruption definition, isolation of the commission from intelligence sources, and the 'divorcing' of the commission from the prosecution process. Vanstone's resignation takes effect from 6 September.
