Bureau of Reclamation authorizes $70m for emergency repair of St. Mary Canal pipes in Montana, aiming to restore water to the Milk River by fall 2025.

The Bureau of Reclamation has authorized emergency funds to repair broken St. Mary Canal pipes, part of the Milk River Project in Montana. The canal diverts water from the St. Mary River to the Milk River, providing drinking water to 18,000 people and supporting agriculture and industry. The cost of fixing the breached St. Mary siphon and another siphon, Halls Coulee, is estimated at $70m, with a goal to have water back in the Milk River by fall 2025.
