St. Mary siphon failure in Babb, Montana leads to localized flooding, canal closure, and road restrictions.
A catastrophic failure of the St. Mary siphon on the St. Mary Canal in Babb, Montana, led to localized flooding on Monday. The siphon breached while Reclamation personnel were monitoring a crack, resulting in damage to the surrounding area, including the hillside and Hook's Hide-Away bar, hotel, and roping arena. The Blackfeet Tribe closed the St. Mary Canal and Milk River in Babb to all river activities, including floating, boating, rafting, swimming, and anything else through June 24. Road closures are also in effect near the area.
