Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez sentenced to 45 years in prison and $8m fine for drug trafficking.

Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez has been sentenced to 45 years in prison and given an $8 million fine for drug trafficking offenses. A jury convicted him in March in Manhattan federal court after a two-week trial, which was closely followed in his home country. Hernandez was found guilty of conspiring to import drugs such as cocaine into the US and for the possession of machine guns classified as destructive devices.
