Former president of Honduras convicted in U.S. of aiding drug traffickers.
Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández has been convicted in New York of charges that he conspired with drug traffickers and used his military and national police force to enable drug trafficking into the United States. This marks a rare instance of a former leader of a country being tried and convicted in the U.S. on drug-related charges. Hernández was once seen as a strong US ally and received over $50m in anti-narcotics assistance from the US.
