71-year-old Srinivas Hegde, mission director of India's first lunar mission, Chandrayaan-1, passed away in Bengaluru after a kidney-related illness. Hegde, who had a 36-year career with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), was involved in numerous space missions. Chandrayaan-1 launched in 2008 and made the groundbreaking discovery of water molecules on the moon.
