Scientists at Argonne National Lab create 4M simulated images for NASA's Roman Space Telescope and Vera Rubin Observatory, using supercomputers and OpenUniverse project, to study cosmic physics and universe origins.

Scientists at Argonne National Laboratory are using supercomputers to create 4 million simulated images for NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope and the Vera C. Rubin Observatory. Led by Michael Troxel, the simulations, part of a project called OpenUniverse, will aid researchers in studying the physics behind cosmic images and testing our understanding of the universe's origin, evolution, and fate. The Roman telescope is set to launch in 2027, while the Rubin Observatory will start operations in 2025.
