The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) is investing $457m in a new Leadership-Class Computing Facility (LCCF) at the University of Texas at Austin. LCCF will be a distributed computational facility for science and engineering applications, deploying the largest academic supercomputer dedicated to open-scientific research in 2026. The Horizon supercomputer will provide a 10x improvement in simulation over the current NSF system and a 100x improvement for AI applications.
