Former footballer Joey Barton will face a new trial over an allegation of assaulting his wife, after judges at the High Court ruled that the previous proceedings should be resumed. The case was initially paused after Mrs. Barton retracted her allegations, but the Director of Public Prosecutions appealed against the decision. Two senior judges ruled in favour of the DPP, stating that Barton should face a trial over the allegations in front of a different judge.
