Energy drink consumption may raise the risk of life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, especially among patients with genetic heart diseases, according to a study by the Mayo Clinic. Increased caffeine content and unregulated ingredients, including taurine and guarana, may be the reason behind this correlation. Researchers found that seven out of 144 sudden cardiac arrest survivors had consumed an energy drink before the event.
