Rare exoplanet "Phoenix", a hot Neptune near a red giant, retains an atmosphere contrary to expectations.
A rare exoplanet, nicknamed "Phoenix", has intrigued scientists due to its ability to retain an atmosphere despite the intense radiation from its nearby red giant host star. Dubbed a "hot Neptune", the planet should have been stripped of its atmosphere, yet it has managed to retain a puffy atmosphere, challenging existing theories about how planets age and die in extreme environments. The findings were published in The Astronomical Journal.
