Astronomers found significantly more water vapor in the disc around a young star, HL Tauri, than Earth's oceans, which may impact planet formation.
Astronomers using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) discovered water vapor in the disc around a young star, where planets may be forming. The observations revealed at least three times as much water as in all of Earth's oceans in the inner disc of the young Sun-like star HL Tauri. This discovery suggests that water vapor could affect the chemical composition of planets forming in those regions and provides a better understanding of planet formation.
