Envigo RMS, a dog breeding company, violated federal law by neglecting thousands of beagles in Virginia, leading to fines, forfeit, and facility closure.

Envigo RMS, a dog breeding company, admitted to violating federal law by failing to provide adequate care for thousands of beagles at its Virginia facility. The company forfeited over 4,000 beagles to nonprofit organizations for adoption and closed the facility. Envigo pleaded guilty to conspiring to violate the Animal Welfare Act, and its sister company, Envigo Global Services Inc., admitted to breaking the Clean Water Act. The parent company, Inotiv, will pay $22 million in fines, with additional funds allocated to improve facilities and aid in environmental restoration. This fine is the largest ever in an animal welfare case.
